Alison

Today’s song is one of my favorite Elvis Costello song, along with She. The line , “Alison, my aim is true” is the theme of the song. When one’s aim is true the target is hit more often than not. The Hebrew word shin translated sin is an archery term literally meaning, “You missed the mark, take another shot.”

That Alison has missed the mark is evident by her giving herself to at least two men unworthy of her. But then no one ever said Cupid was a perfect shot or that our hearts or heads always pick what is best for us. When one’s aim is true they keep shooting till they hit the mark.

When you miss the mark, don’t give up. Keep shooting.
