After The Lovin’
Today’s song was released in 1976 by Engelbert Humperdinck. It is the perfect song to sing for your wife at a party attended by all the women she works with. It has the same effect as a large bouquet of roses sent to her work place announcing to all that she is worshipped and adored by her lover. As the cartoon character Betty Boop says of Jessica Rabbit having Roger Rabbit for a husband in the movie “Who Shot Roger Rabbit”, singing “After The Lovin’ to your wife in front of her girlfriends has them saying with their eyes if not with their mouths, “She’s such a lucky girl.”
It is I who am the lucky one to have such a lovely and loving wife that makes me feel the truth in every word as I sing this love song. Some years ago I saw a print of this picture called The Rapture of Psyche. I had a bunch of them printed and handed them out a couple of Valentine Days, saying to the lady recipients “Tell your lover this is how I want you to make me feel” and to the gentleman recipients “This is how I want to make you feel.” Englebert sings it best, “After the lovin’, I’m still in love with you.”
