A Whole New World
The line in todays’s song “I can show you the world” reminds me of another song to be posted much later in this series, “Welcome To My World.” Love opens our eyes to see a whole new world of possibilities. As the poet said, it may indeed be better to have loved and lossed than never to have loved at all, yet it is far better to love again, and again, and again.
The little boy’s explanation of why dog’s live shorter lives than people comes to mind. With wisdom beyond his years the little guy said, “The reason is that we are here to learn how to love and since dogs already know how to love they do not have to stay here as long.”
Ego or pride hinders us greatly in completing this course in miracles, in learning these lessons in love. The picture Ego would paint of the world is always one of heartbreak, misery, and disappointment. We need someone to show us a whole new world, where love not only survives but thrives.
In a recently released Netflix movie, “Leave The World Behind” we are introduced to a dystopian world where the power and communications grids have been cyber attacked and tankers are running aground, airplanes are crashing to the ground, self-driving cars are blocking the highways with multiple car pile-ups, and the deer are coming out of the woods in mass to warn us that this is a whole new world, one where people are no longer in control. The movie was produced by Barack and Michelle Obama with Julia Robert’s and Ethan Hawke playing the parents of two teenagers on a weekend adventure outside the City in a lavish country home that they have rented for the weekend from a wealthy investment manager who seems to always be a step ahead figuring out future trends.
I believe that the world is what we make it. Our thoughts and words become things. What we focus our attention on becomes our reality. The quote, “They who are ignorant of the past are doomed to repeat it” might also be expressed “Analyzing possible futures might help us prevent the really disastrous ones.”
To paraphrase a letter to friends written almost two thousand years ago, “If there is anything lovely, uplifting, encouraging – think on these things.” That my friends is how we create a whole new world, a better, brighter world, not just for a chosen few, but for everyone.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
