Meet Samantha 1904 – Chapter 1

One of my all-time favorite Christmas TV shows from the past is Mister Magoo’s Christmas Carol. Young Ebenezer is a very lonely boy at boarding school and sings, “A hand for each hand was planned in the world. Why don’t my fingers reach.”

Today we begin a new American Girl story about Samantha who has lost her parents and has come to live with her rich grandma in the city. She is lonely in the big house and excited that a new little girl has come to live next door. The new little girl’s life is far differs from Samantha’s for she is a servant girl working to help support her family. Despite their differences the two girls become fast friends.

What a joy it is no matter your station or situation in life to have a friend. The most sure cure for loneliness is finding another hand and heart that fits your own.

This holiday season is a dark and lonely time for many people who feel lost and disconnected. For many the holidays are full of the ghosts of Christmases past but devoid of true friendship and companionship now.

Reach out your hand and make a new friend this giving season. Friendship is the best gift we have to offer or will ever receive during this adventure in time and space.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
