1854 Meet Kirsten – Chapter 5

“It’s a new month, Honey!” That is a line that I recall hearing a co-worker say more than once shortly after I learned that I was going to be a dad forty-four years ago. Becoming a dad changed me as it does most men. I see these changes happening in my son Jonathan, himself a new dad. It is hard to comprehend just how a little person can change the world in such a short time. In four days Emma Grace pictured below will be three months old and to paraphrase the opening line above: It is a new world, Honey!

The year after my first child, Emily Elaine, was born my friend and co-worker Tom became a dad also. His daughter was born two months early and back then had to stay in the hospital two months before they could take her home. My granddaughter was born a month early but tiny as she was still got to come home after only a few days. I am reminded every time I see her of the song, “Thank Heaven For Little Girls.”
