A Wrinkle In Time – Chapter 6
Some refer to this brief time appointed to us as “a dash” for so it is often depicted on tombstones between the date of our birth and the date of our death. Since few if any true adventures or lives are ever a straight line, no matter how short or long, I think Madeline L’Engles book title is a better description – A Wrinkle In Time.
Some physicists postulate that time and space are relative, that reality is itself a pickle, a riddle a wrinkle. The epic poem by Rudyard Kipling, The Charge Of The Light Brigade has the repeating refrain, “Ours is not to reason why. Ours is but to do and die.” That military mindset is contrary to the scientific mind of the enlightenment. Ours is indeed to wonder why and to try to figure out the great mysteries of life:
Why are we here?
Why are we born?
Why do some live longer than others?
Why do we have to die?
Just to name a few.
I believe we are here because we chose to be, because we choose to be.
There is a Bible verse that says, “It is appointed to man to die once and after that the judgement.” But who made that appointment and who does the critique of each life? I do, you do, we do, for we are that higher power.
We are the masters of our fate, the authors of all we survey.
