A Wrinkle In Time – Chapter 3

Where would you go if you had a Time Machine and could travel forward or backward in time? When your mind wanders, as all minds do from time to time, where does it go, to relive some past regret or accomplishment or to some future dream or goal as yet unrealized?

The Apostle Paul once wrote: “Forgetting those things that are past, I press on to the high calling.” The future’s call was to him most important. Forward thinking or backward thinking, progressive or conservative, I suppose our preferred perspective depends upon which we view as our best days, the good old days, our the sweet bye and bye. I happen to think that both of the last two are mostly illusions having far less value than we place upon them. The only real time is now and to live it fully and abundantly requires focus and commitment.

I like to remind myself of this with a short line I include in my daily mantra: “This is the day that the Lord and I have made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” The ghosts of Christmas Future and Christmas Past are ever with us, yet it is the Ghost of Christmas Present that we need to focus most upon. If for no other reason than that doing so will radically improve both our prospects and remembrances of the other two.

Today is the day of salvation. People spend a lot of time and effort trying to explain their particular take on that one. I think a big part of its meaning lies in the fact that our true salvation and the best use of our time is how we conduct ourselves and make the best of today.

Enjoy the journey, where we have been, and where we are going, critically depend upon how we live in the now.
