Danny, the Duck with no Quack

Today’s children’s book is an odd little story about an odd little duck. I think most of us feel like odd ducks at one time or another in our lives. I was a very shy little boy and even visits from extended family could send me retiring to my room. I felt like an odd little duck with no self confidence, no quack.

My family moved around a lot when I was a boy and middle school was the first one I attended for more than two years. This I think turned out to be a good thing for me for it forced me to make new friends.

I remember that I was more like my mama, shy and introverted, and not as much like my dad, self confident and gregarious. My dad never met a stranger and was always ready with an entertaining story to tell. He had a big quack.

I am my father’s son and my mother’s boy. They have been gone twenty-six and twenty-three years respectively. I miss them both so much and am grateful that they taught me to see the world from different perspectives, quack or no quack.
