I’ve Been Working on the Railroad

Today’s song is a classic that I remember hearing as a small boy. I confess that when I first saw Dinah Shore, I thought surely that she must haven been the Dinah that the song was written about.

There were always railroad tracks nearby and like most little boys I was fascinated with trains and my dream job was working on the railroad. I never did work on the railroad. But one of the special joys of a four week work assignment in Italy was getting to take the train from Ravena to Bologna and on my only Sunday off work to take a four hour train ride to Venice where I took the attached picture with my cell phone. I always thought it looked like a picture postcard. An eight hour train ride through the Italian countryside and a brief walk in a very crowded Venice was a lovely way to pass the time away.

Piloting a gondola looks like even more fun than working on the railroad. What do you say, Dinah? Wanna take a ride on a train or in a gondola just to pass the time away?
