Do You Know the Muffin Man?

I watched several games of the all Texas pennant series. My team, the Houston Astros, lost to the Texas Rangers. Last night the Rangers won their first world series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. During the pennant games I watched there were several cute baseball themed commercials. One I particularly liked was a couple talking about how though they were happily married the wife had had to make some adjustments to her husband’s love of baseball. She says there were concessions and then three men are shown in their home selling baseball snacks everything from peanuts and popcorn to cotton candy – concessions indeed.

The Muffins Man sold his wares in a similar fashion on the streets and perhaps door to door.

Much has changed, but street vendors still sell things at busy street intersections and during festivals, fairs, concerts and sporting events. Just outside Houston in Plantersville, Texas each year about this time for several weekends at The Texas Renaissance Festival you can buy most everything including muffins from vendors dressed in period costumes. I can still see my son as a small boy with his first smoked turkey leg. In a few years he will be buying one for little Emma, another Texas family tradition continuing on.
