Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 20

Today’s chapter details the awarding of prize money and a special bronze medal to Mister Zuckerman for his famous pig, Wilbur. In front of of the grand station and in clear view of hundreds of fair goers Wibur and Mister Zuckerman have their moment in the sun.

Wilbur is so overcome he faints but Templeton revives him by bitting his tail without revealing himself. As it turns out the rat saves the moment as Charlotte foresaw that he might. It reminds me of Frodo in the Lord of the Rings sparing Gollum’s life somehow knowing that he had yet to play an important part in helping to destroy the one ring to rule them all.

Everyone is important in the Grand Story and has an important part to play. Some are chosen to play the starring roles, others to perform supporting roles, and some cast for just walk-ons with few if any lines, but all are important in telling the great story.

Just two more chapters and the story of Charlotte’s Web will be concluded. Yet the echoes of this tale like all good stories like ripples from a stone cast into still water will continue to travel far and touch many.
