Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 12

The next word that Charlotte plans to spin into her web is Terrific. In a meeting with the other animals Charlotte reveals her program to save Wilbur’s life and solicits ideas for her web. The gander suggests the word Terrific, but his spelling is a bit off.

The old sheep convinces Templeton, a rather selfish rat, that saving Wilbur is in his own self interest since his major food source is leftover slop from Wilber’s trough. No Wilbur and that trough would not longer be filled nor any leftovers left to sustain him. Templeton accepts his mission to secure scraps of magazines from the dump for Charlotte to use in her web PR campaign on her friend Wilbur’s behalf.

Wilbur protests that he is a rather ordinary pig and not terrific at all, but Charlotte reminds him that he is in her eyes and that that is all that matters. How wonderful to have a friend that sees the highest and best in us.
