Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 11
“Some Pig” are the words that Charlotte first weaves into the web over the barn cellar door. And those words over Wilbur’s head have the intended affect of making everyone who comes see something in Wilbur that they might have otherwise missed. Only Mrs. Zuckerman points out that the real wonder might be the spider and not the pig.
Today’s chapter, I think, illustrates the way love opens our eyes and helps us to see the wonder in everyone, everything, even ourselves. I believe that Charlotte’s love for Wilbur enables her to be the first to see that he is indeed “Some Pig.”
The cynic says, love makes us gullible. Yet I believe with the old skin horse in The Velveteen Rabbit that love makes us real and all the world around us and within us. We never truly see anyone or anything till we see them looking through the eyes of love.
