Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 7

Today Wibur learns the fate of new pigs and is told why Zuckerman is fattening him up, that he is destined to be smoked bacon and ham. The old sheep tells him this usually takes place right before Christmas and further tells him that Fern’s father Mr. Arable will arrive with his twenty-two rifle to kill him on that fateful day.

Wibur is quite upset by the news, but his dear friend Charlotte quiets and comforts him and promises him, “You will not die.” Leave it to the cunning spider to figure out a way to spare Wilbur as Fern had shortly after he was born.
