Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 4

Today’s chapter is entitled Loneliness and we have all suffered at least a bit of this in our lives. Some endure lives of lonely desperation feeling completely cut off and friendless. Indeed, the root cause of loneliness is “the myth of separation” the Ego inspired notion that we are utterly and completely on our own.

Someone has said of the Garden Story in the beginning of the book of Genesis where Adam named all the creatures and finding no counterpart among them felt incomplete so God caused a deep sleep to come upon him and opened up his chest and took out a spare rib from beneath his heart and fashioned a lovely woman to make Adam’s life complete.

What I started to say was that someone has noted that a deep sleep came upon Adam, but there is no mention of him ever waking up. Perhaps the little children’s round is right with its conclusion that “Life is but a dream.” If so it is a nightmare and living hell for those who believe themselves to be totally alone.

Yet there is, I believe, that still small voice to ever remind us that we are not alone. Who are you gonna believe anyway – that loud and hateful Ego or your highest best self? Sometime that voice speaks to us through others too.

At the end of today’s chapter Wilbur hears a voice. That voice is like the voice Forest Gump heard on his first bus ride to school, the sweetest voice in the wide world. Find out who is speaking to Wilbur tomorrow.
