The Wonderful Wizard of Oz – Chapter 5

To me one of the most beautiful lines in the New Testament is: “We have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency might be of God.” Someone has said, “The cracks are to let the light in, but I think the opposite is more true. We are flawed, cracked, to reveal our super hero identities. We have this treasure in vessels made of clay.

The cowardly lion is the last of the three traveling-companions to join the adventure to seek the Great and Wonderful Oz. Dorothy wants to go home, the Scarecrow is looking for a brain, the Tin Man a heart, and the Cowardly Lion, courage. The Wizard, con-man that he is, has only token, and mementos in his bag to remind them of Who and Whose they are, that the answer to all their hearts desires have been inside them all along.

All our separate adventures have the same aim and goal in mind – to find our way home, to learn to use our own mind, to be guided by our emotions, to discover the courage that we all possess, the inate ability to claim our crown.

“What makes the muskrat guard his musk? Courage!”
