The Wonderful Wizard of Oz – Chapter 4

Today’s reading is called The Rescue of the Tin Woodsman. In the song Tin Man by America is the line “Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man that he didn’t already have…” Despite the obvious double negative in that line I think it expresses a truth not just about the Tin Man, but regarding us all, a truth that is the underlying theme of L. Frank Baum in his story, in history writ large, our story. It is expressed in the core thought that I built my daily mantra around:

“I am so glad and grateful that everything that I could ever want or need is already mine and coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite source.”

No matter the storms, the dark nights, the seeming insurmountable struggles, though we may feel rusty and frozen into inaction the oil can is nearby and an Angel ever ready to apply its healing and freeing balm. The Beach Boys song below has long been a comfort and encouragement to my sometimes heavy heart to hold on to hope.

The Tin Woodsman always had a heart and so do we for we are made to love.
