The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz – Chapter 1

Today begins seventeen days of Oz with a chapter a day and two on the final day. I grew to manhood with the annual holiday season TV broadcasts of the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. Since the advent of VHS tapes and DVD’s I have always had a copy of this wonderful movie to play anytime I choose. It is one of those stories and movies that never grows old. I have grown older, but Dorothy and her friends remain like the Tin Woodsman when she first rescued him – frozen in time.

Young Dorothy runs away from home over a misunderstanding with her Auntie Em and Uncle Henry over having to surrender her beloved dog Toto to the mean old witch Elvira Gultch. A kindly carnival owner sends Dorothy home with a story about Auntie Em having had a broken heart over Dorothy’s leaving. But listen to the story for yourself. Do get the book and the movie, and join Dorothy, her three intrepid companions, and the rest of us of us as we are off to see the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz.
