Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster

The last line of this wonderful poem got me thinking of all the wonder friends that I have known in my life and how if I had let the Whatif Monster have his way that I might have never gotten to know them. This last year I lost two of my life long friends in death. It is important to cultivate new friendships and to invest yourself in those friends you already have to keep those friendships close and vibrant.

George Bailey’s brother toasted him as the richest man in town because George instinctively knew that friendships are the true currency of life. No one on their deathbed says I wish I had made more money, but they might wish they had made more friends. My dad lived to the ripe old age of seventy-three and had a host of friends in his lifetime. In a little over two months I will reach that milestone. My mother said that dad had outlived so many of his family members and friends that he was afraid there would not be enough attending his funeral to be pawl bearers. He would have been pleased at the large turn out.

One of Dad’s last Whatif Monsters was put to rest by the many who loved him coming to see him off. Friends always help us battle the What if monsters in our lives. Take a chance today , smile and speak up remembering friends are only people we let ourselves get to know.
