Who Are You Stripy Horse?

Stripy Horse is the colorful subject of both today’s and tomorrow’s children’s book readings. In today’s tale Stripy Horse has been misplaced and forgotten. Most of us as both children and adults have experienced this sort of limbo, the destination unknown and not the dance, but they do have in common the feeling of going “lower and lower.”

The dictionary defines as:

Stripy Horse experiences the number two definition. Many, children, seniors, and even those somewhere in between, know too well the feeling of oblivion, obsolescence, called limbo. Some would argue that children should not have to hear sad and scary stories, but learning how best to deal with the sad and scary parts of life is a very important part of a real education, as is finding out Who and Whose we truly are.

In Disney’s Toy Story it is matter of pride to cowboy toy Woody that his boy cherishes him enough to write his name “Andy” on the bottom of his boot. The prophet Isaiah has his own loving and infinite source saying that our name is engraved on the palms of his hands signifying that he/she belongs to us and we to him (them). I do not believe in oblivion, obsolescence, or limbo but in belonging. Whatever circumstances, the world, or people may say, we are all children of the Universe, each an integral part of the greater whole. The poet has said, “When even my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will take me up.”
