The Other Side

I got a bit choked up reading today’s book. I found it very touching. It reminded me of seeing the jubilation in November 1989 when they knocked down the Berlin Wall that had divided that city. It had been erected in August of 1961 to keep the citizens on the eastern side from escaping to the west. I remember when I was a boy watching a movie about some brave people who dug a tunnel beneath the wall to escape to freedom.

Walls and fences are built to keep people in or out, separated. I prefer bridges or just open spaces that help bring people together. The old adage says, “The grass is always greener on the other side.” Maybe it just seems so because we always seem to want more what we cannot have. Peace, love, and understanding are not too much to ask and a few more fallen walls and fences.
