Bea and Mr. Jones
When my daughter Emily was a little girl we used to watch the PBS program Reading Rainbow together. One of our favorite books featured on the show was Bea and Mr. Jones.
It is a fun story.
Yesterday my son Jay and his lovely wife Lauren were surprised that their first baby came almost a month early. They named her Emma and in her first picture she reminds me of her Auntie Em right down to the baby blanket she is wrapped in.
Emily would have loved to have greeted her little niece. Alas, she passed eleven years ago. Still I like to think Emily is smiling her famous crooked smile down upon this new little bundle of joy and singing to Emma as she sleeps.
I texted everybody announcing Emma’s arrival and my new status as grandpa. August 5th will henceforth be Emma’s Birthday, the day I became a grandpa. Glad tidings to all.
