On The Day You Were Born

Yesterday I received a package in the mail from my friend Deb in Wisconsin. She made a wonderful quilt and five receiving blankets for my first grandchild, a baby girl due to arrive one month from today. I encourage you to zoom in on the above picture and see the detail and stitching on the quilt and the precious themes of each of double thick receiving blankets.

My granddaughter’s mom, Lauren, was thrilled to see the picture of these gifts for her baby girl from a dear lady she has never met. Lauren is pretty sure, at least hopeful, that baby girl (Yet to be named) will make her appearance before her due date. And we, her adoring family, friends, and fans say, “God speed, Little Angel.”

Deb received her first granddaughter, Amelia, over four years ago now. Amelia’s mom and dad, Alicia and Thomas, have tried to restrict the size and number of gifts that Amelia receives, not wanting her to be spoiled or to be completely crowded out of their home. Gama Deb and Uncle Jim want to be sure that their little Angel knows how adored she is. Uncle Jim bought Amelia a little Teddy Bear for her fourth birthday last April 3rd.

Look closely at both pictures and you will see a theme.

Little One, on the day you were born there was a celebration of welcome, one we will reenact with singing, cake, ice cream, cake and presents, for the rest of your life.

Your friend, fellow traveler, and soon to be adoring grandpa,

David White
