Christmas At The Hollow Tree Inn

Finding and being able to record this Christmas Treasure from my youth was an unexpected treat. This classic tale was originally published in 1898 and entertained several generations of children before my mom first read it to my brother and me in the mid-nineteen fifties. A door to door salesman had convinced my parents to buy a set of six children’s books called The Child’s World.

Christmas At The Hollow Tree In with several black and white illustrations was in one of those books. I recall bringing it to my mother many times and begging her to read it to me and my younger brother. We loved that story and it helped keep the joy of Christmas alive for us all year long.

Elvis Presley sang a song, “Why can’t everyday be like Christmas?” My mama loved Christmas and when Robert and I were boys she took a seasonal job working evenings in a dime store to make extra money so her boys would have a special Christmas. Mama made sure like Mr. Dog in today’s reading that every Christmas was special for those she loved.
