Jolly Old Saint Nicholas
I have discarded many beliefs that no longer serve me as most if not all of us have over the years. Still one of the seed thoughts that came to me some time ago when I was fleshing out a new belief system is:
“I am so glad and grateful that everything that I could ever want or need is already mine and coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite source.”
As a child I might have thought the name of my beloved benefactor was Santa Claus, Saint Nicolas, or Chris Kringle even as some use other names for their higher power, Jehovah, Allah, Jesus and many others names. My favorite name for my higher power is the Universe.
Like today’s Christmas poem I trust my higher power to pick out my gifts and to send to me at just the right time and in just the right way. Western thought sees heaven or paradise as the place where we get everything we want. Eastern thought sees heaven or paradise as the place where we cease wanting. Either way we get to the same place really.
The Psalmist wrote of his higher power: “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…” whatever or whomever we believe in should so satisfy us or perhaps that belief is no longer serving us.
