Any collection of classic fairytales would be incomplete without today’s story. The little guy with the mysterious name trading rescue and wealth today for a future favor is like Faust and The Godfather combined. He offers the Princess a way out of the deal if she can only guess his name.

First timers hearing the story are on pins and needles awaiting the conclusion of the tale. Anticipation is a big part of the story as it is in many a tale.

Forced by dire circumstances the young girl makes a deal with the devil to save herself and her father. She hopes to figure a way out of the deal before pay day arrives. It is a cautionary tale about truth telling and the dangers making promises we will find it hard to keep.
