Jack and the Beanstalk

Today is the first story in the book, Two-Minute Fairy Tales that includes Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Bears, Hansel and Gretel, and many more. Today’s reading is the classic tale of a boy duped into trading the family cow for a handful of “magic beans” that actually turn out to provide the poor boy and his widowed mom financial relief and great adventure.

Many a child who memorized this story as a child has dreamed of hens laying golden eggs, golden harps playing beautiful music, and piles of gold enough to buy anything their hearts desired and awoke to the deep bass voice shouting, “Fee Fie Foo Fum, I smell the blood of and Englishman.”

To this day I keep a hatchet, a saw, and an axe sharpened and handy just in case.
