The Wrong Side Of The Bed

Today’s book title comes from an expression I heard often as a child that was used to explain people behaving unusually. They would say, “He or she must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed. Wallace E. Keller in the end of his book dedicated it to his mother whom he said patiently cleaned his foot prints off the ceiling many times.

Sons often have a special close relationship with their mothers and daughters with their dads. Some think that is to prepare us for marriage one day. Maybe so, but then all relationships open is up to other relationships. Bad hair days and days getting up on the wrong side of the bed are much a part of life and those who truly love us must accept us warts and all and we them.

As the book says, “What goes up must come down.” I am reminded of a song I knew as a teenager: Mama Said There’ll Be Days Like This.

I daily remind myself to take responsibility for my days in my daily mantra – “This is day that the Lord and I have made and we will rejoice in it.”
