The Bluebonnet, the Texas State Flower

Long before I came to Texas I had heard of the Yellow Rose of Texas and Tyler Roses, yett I was here for over a decade before I saw the bluebonnets in bloom first hand. While dating my lovely and loving wife Linda we made our first road trip together to Brenham, Texas, Home of Blue Bell Ice Cream, and where some of the largest spreads of blue bonnets bloom along highway 290 in the early spring.

Today is National Cancer Survivors Day and my wife is a breast cancer survivor and for many years was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society’s Reach To Recovery Program encouraging other breast cancer survivors to participate in support groups. My beautiful Texas rose has shown great courage and given much encouragement to many another lovely Texas flowers over the years.

Whether one is talking about the Yellow Rose of Texas, Tyler Roses, or the Texas State Flower, the Blue Bonnet, Texas has more than its share of pretty women and lovely flowers. Having picked a pretty one I ought to know.
