Traveling Through Time And Space

Last week in a blog about going to Mars that I called, “I Dreamed Of Being An Astronaut” I shared one of my boyhood dreams. Yet like most of you I am not a “one trick pony” and have many other dreams as well. One of the recurring ones is time travel. I have read several books and seen more than a few movies on the subject. One of my many favorites is “About Time”, a 2013 British romantic comedy starring Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams, and Bill Nighy. It is a wonderful story about a young man who discovers that he has the ability to travel back into his own life and make changes to make it and the lives of those he loves better. In the end he discovers that reliving certain days over and over to get them right is unnecessary if he lives each day wide awake and aware of everyone and everything around him.

We are each of us literally traveling through space each day on this big spinning, hurling blue ball, and we are as well traveling through time. As the soap opera opening line used to say, “These are the days of our lives.” We should spend them wisely and preferably wide awake to all the opportunities that they present. And we do not really need to travel back into time to correct anything but rather just to make the most of the opportunities before us to live, to love, to be happy, and share that happiness with as many as possible.

I have a blog, a daily mockingbird song, and my sexy poetry to share. These are but three of my attempts to leave something behind, to make the most of my time. What do you do with the time you have? And please don’t say, “But, I have so little time.” The same clock that ticks off the time for me does the same for you. Twenty-four little hours we are all allotted each day and how we spend them, how we use them, what we do during them is all up to us. We get to chose. Don’t like your job? Get another one. Don’t like your significant other? Trade them in on a new model, but before you do either of those be sure the problem isn’t with you. Often the change most needed in our lives is really just in our own thinking. Oh, some jobs, and relationship maybe we really should admit are “done” and just move on but more often we are only getting out of them what we put into them and that is the problem. We do not need a time machine to figure that out.

Like the above movie title, “About Time” it is about time we took responsibility for our time, our actions, and our thinking. I happen to believe the last one is the most important. Or as the young people used to say, “Change your mind and the rest will follow.” Give it a try, after all you’ve got time.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
