To All The Lovelies
Many of you already know that I have a fondness for pictures of Marilyn Monroe. But I am an equal opportunity lovely lover. Red, and yellow, brown, black, and white (skin and hair) they are all quite precious in my site and I love them all or more correctly put in the southern vernacular with which I grew up, “I love you all.”
Sometime ago, I found my true religion the one that I was looking for all my life. No, not Christianity in any of it’s various forms, nor Hindu, Shinto, Islam , Jewish, or Buddhist and they all have their tastier parts but the one I sought long and hard for that would be to me “the old time religion that makes me love everybody.” Nobody can make you love anyone, not even God all mighty whomever or however you think Him or Her to be. But it is in us to love and when we set that part of our heart free by loving by far most difficult one for us to love – ourselves – then we can see ourself in everyone and love them too.
I submit to you that we do not now nor have we ever really had any trouble seeing ourself in others. Trouble is and may still be for some of us slower learners that when we do not love ourself, it is those parts of ourself that we love least that we see in others most and judge and condemn and have all kinds of problems with. But our problem with others is now and really always has been just a problem we have with ourself.
I hope you follow me because this is some really profound and life changing shit. And yes you read me right that was no auto editor or even Freudian slip. All of the important issues in life can be traced to problems dealing with our own shit. We want to dump it on others to deal with. Most of us would forever stay babies if we could get away with it letting someone else have to deal with our shit. Well, Dave, you certainly have a potty mouth today. Thanks for the great segway. Difficult as childhood potty training was for us it is symbolic of some really important work that many of us have yet refused to do and that is loving ourselves shit and all.
Well as the little puppy said after they cut off it’s tail, “That is the long and the short of it.” Sooner or later we must all learn that we are truly one of the lovelies too. And that is the “true true” religion loving and accepting ourselves and all we see of ourselves in others. That is some good shit – Lovely.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
I may not really know all that much about much, but I have learned to love myself, shit and all. Just had to say the word one more time. Glad to get that out of my system and yes one last potty joke. “Shit” said the king and five thousand loyal subjects squatted and grunted.” Reminds me of the line from Hamlet, “There is something rotten in Denmark.” Or another Shakespeare classic line, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” But we aren’t talking about roses are we?
