Not Made To Fit In But To Stand Out

I am a movie lover and at least once a week you can find me at my chosen house of worship paying homage to the cinematic arts. For one who tires of the commercials that interrupt the movies playing on regular TV I am quite fond of the “coming attractions” that play before the feature starts and I consider myself late for the movie if I miss them. Some years ago, months before the movie Blindside hit the theaters I wept just watching the preview. I love all things Sandra Bullock, one of my most favorite and most often watched movies being While You Were Sleeping starring you know who. Blindside promised to be a wonderful touching movie and it was. Recently they have been playing previews of the soon to be released movie, Wonder. The line in the preview that touches me most is, “You we’re not made to fit in but to stand out.” Watch for the movie and see it. I plan to.

Another great line along the same line is, “Do not allow the world to press you into its mold.” Or as was said of my unique dad, “They broke the mold” or rather he did. How little we must truly love and appreciate ourselves to strive so hard to “fit it” when we were made to “stand out.” In school, the military, and well for most of my life I prided myself for my ability to “blend in”, “make a small target”, be “unremarkable.” But I like you I was not made to fit in but to shine, to sparkle, to stand out. We are all stars far brighter than those lesser luminaries of stage, screen, and TV. Are you ready for that close up, C.B? Fellow movie buffs will get the reference. The rest of you, just trust me, no lack of make-up, wardrobe, set design or script can prevent you from presenting the performance of a lifetime. For it is in you, it is in all of us to shine, to stand out for we were not made to just fit in. Any wonder some of us have such a hard time trying to.

I saw a young waitress wearing a tee shirt that in bold yellow letters on a dark blue back ground read, “Give it all you’ve got.” Who or what are you saving it for. This is it, the time to shine. Hear your cue? The whole cast, the entire universally audience are holding their breath awaiting for you to give the performance of a lifetime.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

And devoted fan, Bravo, Bravo
