Sometimes The Most Encouraging Word Of All
I am a wordy guy, son of a wordy guy, and grandson of wordy guys. The gift of gab runs a long line in my family. Like most of us who feel we have something important to say or to write I really have to work hard at listening and not just for breaks in the conversation where I can insert my two cents worth but to really listen to learn. Sometimes what we think we already know gets in the way of our learning new and even more important things. If we knew who we were truly listening to we might pay closer attention. I posted another piece yesterday on the wonderful word Namaste like Cumbauya it leaves a less than desirable taste in some people’s mouths. But I like it for it reveals the true identity of all speakers and listeners.
Oh, and I like Cumbauya too. I think it literally means, “Come by here” as Namaste literally means, “I bow to the divinity in you.” Sometimes the most encouraging word is the one we do not speak opting instead to allow the other to speak and giving them our undivided attention. God Listens was a popular bumper sticker some years back. I saw it all around Houston advertising a Christian radio station. But the Universe truly does listen, I believe. And to prove ourselves true children of the Universe we ought to listen too. It might amaze us what we and others hear when we don’t say a thing.

A short piece today, proving even a wordy guy can know when to quit talking and when to listen.
