Some Are Nova

“Nova” as many words has different meanings to different people and can be depending on the context it is used in be taken quite differently than intended. This lesson was graphically learned by Chevrolet who thought their Nova car would sell well in Mexico. Sales were disastrous and the high priced team that did the autopsy of the dead sales program found the answer so simple. In Spanish “No va” means “No go” and who in their right mind would buy a car named “No go”?

In English the definition of Nova is: “A bright and shining shortly lived star.” Many people are that. Three often pictured today in paintings in memoriam are,  James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis Presley. The three lived short, exciting, bright shining lives and left us stunned but inspired to have basked in their glow. So many others not so widely known have like Novas burned brightly and died quickly. My daughter Emily was such a one. Barely thirty two years on the planet but did she ever burn bright?

I believe and will continue to say so as long as I have breath that each of us is a shining star in heaven’s firmament but some of us barely let our light shine at all here, others do, some for many years, others for just a few. Those are the Novas who seem to burn brightest and burn out quickest.

I am no Nova. I am in it for the long haul. Much as I long to burn ever brighter, I would like to be around to shine for years to come. In this place I am only practicing to shine like the sun. Stars are all suns you know. Hardly anybody calls me “Sonny” any more but age is relative. Light is a bit more measurable and reliable. Let your light shine, Sunshine.
