I Am Yogi
Not much smarter than the average bear perhaps, but I am learning to relax and let life happen. Most of the problems in life come from our forcing it, forcing others, forcing things, and forcing ourselves or at least trying to make everything fit into the little box of our limited understanding. We think we know but we do not, so often, neither what is best for us, anyone else, or even what makes us happy much of the time.
I am Yogi. I let go of even the idea that I have to know. I only need to live in the moment. That sets me free. I just read an excellent blog called, “Are You A Yogi?” by joyshimmers@wordpress.com. I have been following her posts for a couple of months and her poignant explanations of Hindu religious terms and practices have been very encouraging and enlightening. Today she detailed the characteristics of a Yogi. And I am a simple man but realize that even Hanna-Barbera must have had a true Yogi in mind when they created the cartoon character Yogi Bear, who laughingly described himself as “Smarter than the average bear.”
I am a real Yogi and not just because I love picnic baskets and big and little boo boobs, but because I have learned the great lesson that all true Yogis have learned – it has never been about being the smartest but about being the most at peace with God, with others, with the world, but most especially with ourself. Wherever we find ourself, on a beach, in the big city, on a mountain top, on a highway, or in the wood, a Yogi’s eyes and heart are always open and see and understand that it is all good.
