Rain Drops Are Like Air Ships

There is a great line from Shakespeare that I quote often about there being worlds not dreamt of in most of our limited philosophies regarding the Universe and it’s expansion but also it’s tiniest inner workings. Take the tiny rain drop, one part hydrogen, two parts oxygen but that’s not all. Every drop of rain that forms from the moisture in clouds drawn up from the ground must have a small particle to condensate around.

Often that little speck is a bit of dust swept up by the wind into the air but also many things we think of as pollution are particles that help produce rain. Scientists tell us that microbes ride the rain drops like tiny air ships and are carried by the clouds, the wind, and rain far and wide. These miniscule bacterial microbes are beneficial and scientists are studying them to learn more about the movements of these tiny fliers of upper and lower if not outer space. Maybe rain drops are not exactly space ships as are comets and meteors but it is still fascinating to me that itty bitty critters ride the moisture drawn up into the clouds and fall back to earth as rain far from where they were taken up.

Sometimes we think we know so much about everything and then a tiny rain drop containing tinier microbes comes along to remind us there is so much more to learn even about the little things if we can just stay open. I love rain but do not pretend to know even all that much about rainbows but I am eager to learn more. The mind of a child of the Universe is a space almost as big as the Universe itself, eagerly waiting to be filled. Let it rain, let it rain, let it pour.
