Light From This Old Jar
Light in a corner
Shining foot/afar
Light still shines
From this old jar.
I am a writer, a poet and a tinkerer among other things. I like to tinker with thoughts, words, and things. A couple of weeks ago I found an old jar. I looked it up on-line and it is a 1920’s or 1930’s Sanford Ink jar and well. Yesterday I bought a replacement bulb for the little refrigerator in my camper trailer which is not my home away from home but my resting place for at least half the year till the freezing temps arrive in Wisconsin. I got two bulbs matching the rusted one I took out and a cool looking LED one that was packaged with wires, a little battery attached, and a little red button to push so you could see how bright the LED light glows.
As I carefully took the LED light out of the package, keeping button, wires, and battery attached I knew I just had to tinker with this. So I used one of the two new standard bulbs to replace the old rusty refrigerator bulb. After getting light back in the cool box I started tinkering.
To show you how my child like mind works, I first thought of lightning bugs caught in a jar. Then I remembered my little old jar and thought, “Something old and something new.” Not exactly Edison inventing a longer lasting light bulb but a fun time without getting shocked. Then this morning getting ready to leave to do laundry my light jar inspired a little poem that inspired this blog.
To paraphrase a favorite Bible verse: I have this light in an old jar but it still shines near and far. Let your let shine, Pilgrims.
