(Excerpt from the book, Emily – The Little Girl Who Sang Her Song To Anyone Who Came Along) Emily’s Birthday
Episode 15
From the time she could sit up and hold on to my arms I would fold my fingers together palms up and create a little swing with my hands and arms to swing her between my legs. I called it Emily’s swing. It was not however her first swing. That was one of those windup jobs for soothing babies. Emily loved to swing as most children do.
Many times we journeyed to nearby parks to make use of the swing sets and slides. For a couple of years when we tried to buy a house Emily got to have a back yard and my mom and dad paid for a swing set for Emily, some assembly required and then some.
As a girl Emily loved the TV show Little House On The Prairie so I built her a play house and named it after the show. When I got laid off and took a job making much less we had to leave the house and move back into an apartment, we took the little house with us. Without permission I removed one end of the privacy fence around our apartment patio and placed the little house on the patio replacing the fence. Then we called it Little House On The Patio.
After Emily passed while I was working in Alaska my next assignment was in Wyoming a state I had been intending to live in for some time. As soon as I got to Wyoming I bought a used nineteen foot pull behind camper and pulled it from Green River, Wyoming behind my Jeep Wrangler to Baggs, Wyoming, that was near where I would be working for the next five months. I lovingly referred to my RV trailer as The Little House On Wheels On The Praire. Sweet memories of Emily travel with me wherever I go.
