The Best Thing
The first creative writing that I ever attempted was rhyming poetry as a boy. I still write a lot of rhyming poetry and have the greatest regard and appreciation for poetry especially poetry set to music. I learned from my dear departed daughter Emily, herself a singer/song writer the power there is in putting a message to music. It you would like to hear my daughter sing simply do a computer search for Dancing With Spock and click on the Utube videos and you will see and hear my daughter Emily Elaine White and her boyfriend and sax man for the last six months of her adventure in space and time, Toby Harris. The duo called themselves Dancing With Spock.
Music played a large part in Emily’s life and in my own. I discovered quite a few years ago that the Great Spirit often speaks directly to my heart through song. Many believers think that Papa, another name for the Divine, speaks almost exclusively through a particular holy book. I find that notion almost ludicrous now though I thought that for a long time myself. Oh, but I hear Him/Her speaking to me in so many more ways these days. In and through everything including sunrises and sunsets, nature, the eyes of a loving pet, children, people, oh but I still hear that most wondrous voice best in lyrics put to music. One of the best examples of which is the song recorded quite some time ago by Gladys Knight and the Pips called The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me. I encourage you if you do not know the song to check it out and if you do to listen to it again and really pay attention. I share the words that still move my heart to know He/She/We is indeed the best thing that ever happened to me.
The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me
Gladys Knight
I’ve had my share of life’s ups and downs
But fate’s been kind, the downs have been few
I guess you could say that I’ve been lucky
I guess you could say that it’s all because of you
If anyone should ever write my life story
For whatever reason there might be
Oh, you’ll be there between each line of pain and glory
‘Cause you’re the best thing that ever happened to me
Ah, you’re the best thing that ever happened to me
Oh, there have been times when times were hard
But always somehow I made it, I made it through
‘Cause for every moment that I’ve spent hurting
There was a moment that I spent oh just loving you
If anyone should ever write my life story
For whatever whatever reason there might be
Oh, you’ll be there between each line of pain and glory
‘Cause you’re the best thing that ever happened to me
I know you’re the best thing oh that ever happened to me
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White

Thank you, David, I love a great song, which I separate from much of what I listen to, a song has lyrics and music, I am “touched” by Papa’s “voice” in pieces of music. I am aware right now of something percolating that I will compose shortly-This post is helping answer my question
