You Were Created To Be Loved

That is one of the things Papa says in the book and in the movie, The Shack. I hope if you have not that you will see the movie and if you are a reader that you will get the book. It is a wonderful story about love. Often we get stuck, get cross ways of ourselves, God, and each other. We cannot see past our own pain. But Papa, another of the many names for God, is always working through whatever mess we get ourselves into for our good. The lesson in everything is always the same, “You are so loved – If you just knew you’d never worry, never doubt  and never hurt again.

Most of us who grew up in religion were taught that were were created to serve God first, others second, and ourselves last but that isn’t exactly right. We were created to be loved. Children are not created to serve their parents or be cheap labor. Children are created to be loved. Often as parents because of our own brokenness, bitterness, and misunderstanding of our real purpose, we fail to love our children the best we could. Sometimes we get a second chance later in our lives to love them through their children.

It is a great way to measure our ability to love by our knowledge of how deeply and completely we are loved. Still we have a tendency to get the cart before the horse. You were first created to be loved. So many times we portray God as a sick personality so needy of our love, or appreciation, our devotion that when He doesn’t get it He is angered to wrath. Nothing could be further from an accurate picture of God. God is a loving parent who would always choose to hurt Himself than for His child to hurt.

As I said in the beginning I hope you will make time for The Shack in your life. Few books or movies have spoken to me as clearly as The Shack has. See or read it with your eyes, your mind, your heart opened and I promise you will never think the same about love or loss. It is my hope that everyone who reads the book or sees the movie will take Papa’s words to heart, “”You were created to be loved.”
