Selfishness Versus Self-fullness

Selfishness Versus Self-fullness
Did you ever hear the expression, “Well, he or she, certainly is full of themselves.”? I think that not only is the opposite more often true but that the fullness of the self is to be desired. Selfishness is really a sign of incompleteness, a hunger to have more and to be more than we think we are. People who behave selfishly are afraid there is not enough or that they are missing something. These are lies that ego whispers to us constantly. When we come into the fullness of our self we are not so easily tricked by the old lies.
All of your life you have heard stories about people who accomplished great things, people just like you. Were they lucky – perhaps; stronger, bravery, more intelligent – not likely. Did they have God’s special blessing on them? I no longer believe God works like that. Out perfect Father loves all His children and all of His Creation the same. I mentioned to a friend that I wrote down an idea for a blog but that I did not know yet how it would turn out. To a writer his  articles, pieces, books are like his or her own children and they are all loved the same and wished a full and happy life. We are not always aware of our creations but they are kept for us and one sweet day they will surround us like loving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren…and they will all rise up and call us blessed and happy we shall be to see the fullness of the self we were created to be in all of our creations. Like parent like child. Oh, we may make a bit of trouble from time to time as our children also do but we can only truly create in the likeness of our Parent. You see He has rigged the system. All the while we think we have free will there is but One will, His will. All the rest is make-believe.
I love the parable of The Prodigal Son about a willful young man who ask his father for his share of what he might inherit someday. The father gave it to him and he left home and went to a far-away city where he wasted his inheritance on fast living and fast women and friends that left fast when the money was gone. He ended up working for a pig farmer feeding the pigs and even considered sharing the pigs food because he was hungry and barely getting by on his meager pay. But he came to himself the story says and remembered who and whose he was. He made up his mind to go home and beg his father to let him be one of his hired hands. But his father saw him coming a long way off and ran to him and would not hear a bit of his rehearsed spiel for all dad could hear was his own heart crying out, “My son is home.” And then dad’s lips and mouth chimed in, “Get a ring, get a robe, prepare a feast. My son is home. Let’s party!”
The story goes on to tell of an older brother who did not yet know his own self-fullness but selfishness and who was worried about not getting his proper share of his father’s property. But listen carefully to the father’s words to his erring child. “Son, everything I have is yours. Be happy that your brother has come home.” Indeed everything Our Father has is ours and since He is not planning to die He has given it to us already to enjoy. And if we, like little brother, waste a little learning a lesson or two, no biggie. Our Father has endless resources, even more than enough for tight fisted older brothers. Our Heavenly Father’s loves all His children the same and wills and works it so all will come to the full awareness of who and whose they are. Self-fullness will win in the end and selfishness, which is based on and is a lie, will disappear. I have that on the highest authority. If you don’t believe me, just ask Dad.
