You Were Perfect, You Still Are

I get some of my best ideas for blogs from movie lines. Another of my favorite movies is the movie, Sabrina. I love both versions, the fifties version with Audley Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, and William Holden and also the nineties version with Julia Ormond, Harrison Ford, and Greg Kinnear. The line that touched me most while re-watching the 1990’s version yesterday was when younger brother David says to Sabrina that she certainly has changed and she says, “But you are still the same, but then you always were perfect. You still are.”

Our own ego and the ego’s of others would tell us differently but the sweet spirit that our Father created to be our true guide through this life would remind us that we were created perfect, have always been, and still are. I know that this runs counter to what we have been told all of our lives and to what the holy books seem to teach. I just ask you to remember that even the holiest of books were written by men with ego’s and that ego always gets it wrong. Jesus said of the holy books of his day, “You search the scriptures for in them you think you will find eternal life and these are they that testify of me.” The word of God is written in every human heart and we have but one true teacher to help us make sense of it all. And no it is not me, some tele-evangelist, or even some degreed scientist, it is our highest and best angel, the sweet spirit of God, the Universe.

All the different doctrines, churches, religions are man-made, ego-driven attempts to make sense out of the inexplicable. Life is unknowable, passed our understanding, without a Guide. All the technological gadgets used to come with a guide called an instruction manual. Now of days you have to go on line to down load the operating instructions and view a tutorial. We have a built-in tutor. Those sometimes muddled scriptures often do contain great insights, one particular verse says, “You have no need for anyone to teach you for you have the Holy Spirit to teach you.” And unlike earthy teachers looking for followers-for-life the Holy Spirit has but one lesson plan – to remind you of Who and Whose you are and have always been, and always will be. I have probably heard it a million times, “There is no one perfect but God.” Listen carefully the next time you hear that line and you will hear the sweet spirit echo, “You are God’s. You are perfect. You always were and you still are.”

Love sees passed the ego. Love knows what ego never can. We were not shapened in iniquity but created by Love Himself to mirror our creator. No matter what ego thinks, yours or anyone else’s, remember Who and Whose are and have always been, and will always be. Ego says you are a worm, nothing, in the nightmares he spins. But God, the Universe, says you are mine, you are perfect, the bad dreams will end and you will awake, Dorothy in your own bed surrounded by your loving family. You not only can go home again it has always been your destiny.

Your friend and fellow traveler,
See you, if not before, when we get Home,
David White
