We Are Like Snowflakes

We Are Like Snowflakes

We are like Snowflakes, unique and beautiful. There is in one of the concluding scenes of one of my favorite movies, Cloud Atlas, an irate father-in-law trying to dissuade his son-in-law and daughter from going east to help the abolishionists prior to the Civil War. He tells them anything they could do would be but drops in the ocean. The young son-in-law replies, “And what is the ocean but many drops.” And what is a wonderful snow covered scene but many snowflakes?

To say we are beautiful and unique is to only say a small part of who and what we are. We are one with everyone and everything. I said in a note in yesterday’s blog after saying that I was David and Ben’s dad for seven years till their mother and I separated that separation is and has always been a lie while atonement is the true reality. Yes, we are like Snowflakes but we are we are also one with the other snowflakes. Oldego, the deceiver, would have us believe that we are separate, on our own, alone but he is wrong. He as one of his more familiar names, Satan, “The accuser of the brethren” says, would have us believe that we have no allies only enemies. When the truth of the matter is that we have no enemies only brothers.

We are like snowflakes in a winter wonderland, drops in the ocean, but brothers in one great big family. We have I think thought of the Christmas song the angels sang in a way too limited a way. They sang, “Peace on earth, good will to men.” Some have limited that message to say it means, peace on earth to men of good will, thinking in terms of separation again. The gift was not just for the Jews, the Christians, the “good people” but for every snow flakes, of every color, creed, sexual orientation or any other identifying factor you choose, love, and snowflakes come in all shapes, sizes, and flavors, likes Skittles. Taste the Rainbow,  like a child stick out your tongue and taste a snowflake.

I do believe God is One but not in the exclusive sense of the Old Testament or Islam but in the inclusive sense of “God is all in all.” God is every drop in the ocean, God is every snowflake and we with our uniqueness and beauty are a part of the whole. The Hallmark Greeting Cards slogan, “When you care enough to send the very best” is what God did not just once but every baby ever born was God sending a part of Himself into the world not to save us but to remind us Who and Whose we truly are. Any separation was a lie at the start and a terrible nightmare at that. The sweet spirit always whispers while ego shouts and curses. And what does that sweet spirit whisper, “Wake up child, and wake your brothers, it’s Christmas morning, and those presents aren’t going to unwrap themselves.” Merry, merry Christmas to all.
