Here’s Hoping You Make Us And Yourself Proud

Blog 464 – 11.13. 2016

Change is a scary thing for many people but as the surprising vote Tuesday shows a majority of Americans in most states are ready for a change. I hope Mr. Trump and the new Congress and the soon to be new Supreme Court can make some positive changes in government, in our country, and yes, even in our world. There have been twelve Presidents in my lifetime and Donald J. Trump will make thirteen.

I was thinking this morning about a movie I saw as a young man where the king having had trouble with the Church of England appointed his good friend and drinking buddy to be Archbishop of Canterbury, the head of the church. Problem solved, not really, his friend took his oath seriously and fulfilled his responsibilities despite his previous loyalies and especially to the one who had put him there. You see, the new Archbishop believed a Higher Power than the king had brought him into the kingdom for such a time. That last part is a line from the book of Esther, another great story of a person who responded to the call to greatness.

Donald Trump got the nomination defying his own party and all the professional politicians and pundits and convincing a great number of people to “trust him” without really saying what he intended to do specifically. He has a bank check. I hope he doesn’t waste a dime investigating or procecuting Hillary or building a wall or pursing another foolish war. I hope that he picks a Supreme Court judge that doesn’t have his or her mind made up but who will weigh each case on its merits as they all are supposed to do.  I hope he remembers that he is everybody’s President not just the ones who voted for him. I hope he forces Congress to make some much needed changes in our rules to live by even if he has to make deals with the Democrats to get the votes to do it. Wow, compromise, bi-partisan participation in new legislation to make all our lives better and to truly share the great wealth of this of this nation, what an idea. And I hope that he even fixes problems with the environment and trade imbalances that threaten peace and security around the world. You go, Mr. Soon-to-be President Trump. You just might be the man who could do it all.

You have said a lot of things and I believe many of them were outrageous on purpose to the media to get tons of free air time but also to set the establisment, the status quo folks, on their ears. Like the one where you said you could shoot  someone in the street in New York City and your numbers would still go up.

I read you had an interview with Oprah Winfrey years ago  and she asked you about running for President and you said that if you ever did that it would be to help this country that you love so much and that if you ran you would win. I believe you may not have meant many of the silly things you said to get elected but I think you meant what you said to Oprah and I look forward to seeing you continue to follow your heart and not the politicians, pundits, special interest groups, rich or poor. I hope that someday the Trump Brand will be far outshined by The Trump Presidential Legacy and that people will not say “Trump Made America Great Again” but that Trump helped make America greater that she had ever been before.

Many of us who did not vote for you are willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Make us all proud. Doubters and the disappointed aside you can be the best President the United States of American ever had.

Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
