The Life Force

Blog 431 – 10.11.2016

I have been a Star Wars fan since the first movie came out quite a few years ago. I never had a real problem with The Force even when I was trying to practice a conservative Christian religion for it just seemed to me to be another take on the same world view where everything including the divine was divided into good and bad, right and wrong, positive and negative, light and dark, etc. Due to some very disappointing circumstances in mid-life I rejected the religion of my youth because those beliefs were no longer serving me and I tried to live for many years as an atheist, a non-believer, or actually a believer in chaos theory, you know the popular faith called, “stuff just happens, get used to it .” But as a mostly positive individual I found that belief, too, failed to serve me so I discarded it too after almost twenty years and today I choose to believe in a higher power but not quite as Christians, Muslims, Hindus , followers of Budda, or Taoists do though I see great truths mixed with misunderstandings in all of these religions. Each of us must follow the path as we see it and try to discern the Life Force, allowing and giving It/Him/Her sway in our lives. I no longer believe it is possible for us do anything to ultimately change Who and Whose we are but by trying to or continuing to deny our true identity and attempting to live a lie we can make ourselves miserable and contribute to the general confusion.

My religious friends and non-religious friends alike think that some if not many of my beliefs, my thoughts, are strange. I try to hold my thoughts, my beliefs, lightly so I can more easily change them or discard them when they cease to serve me or cloud my understanding of the my True Source. This Force that pushes a daisy up through the concrete, causes a stage four cancer patient given up on by the best and most skilled doctors to recover, and in a thousand more ways shows up inexplicably to work wonders, now that is a terribly difficult Person to deny. The most complete and concise understanding of what I think our One True Source/Life Force is can be found in a wonderful little book called The Impersonal Life by Joseph Sieben Benner. Many have tried to show us The Way or reveal a better picture of The Higher Source and we rejoice in them and think every child of The Universe has the image of their Creator in and on them. It is not in comparing our life with others that we find our best and truest self but by going within to find inside us that precious direct connection to all there is, the Oneness, that is the Life Force, “May the Force be with you.” as endearingly as in is used in the Star Wars movies still might be better expressed as “Feel the Force, be the Force” or as Mr. Spock from another Sci Fi universe says, “Live long and prosper.”
