Blog 427 – 10.07.2016
One of the many songs that my dear and beloved late daughter Emily sent to me on mixed CDs is the subject and main point for this blog. I quote it in its entirely.
Perfect World
by Indigo Girls
“We get to be a ripple in the water,
We get to be a rock that’s thrown.
We get to be a boy on the bridge
Standing over the reservoir.
I see the water lapping on the shoreline
Buried forest, a man made lake
Cemeteries are laying underneath it
Your heart like a dam when it breaks.
We’re floating, we’re swimming
And in this moment we are forgetting
What it costs what it takes
For one perfect world when we look the other way.
I’m OK if I don’t look a little closer
I’m OK if I don’t see beyond the shore
I’m OK if I don’t have to do the killing or
Know what the killing’s for.
We’re talking we’re driving
And in this moment we are denying
What it costs what it takes
For one perfect world when we look the other way.
It’s one perfect world…when we look the other way.
It’s one perfect world…when we look the other way
It’s one perfect world.
You can’t see beyond the myth of isolation
And the miracle of daybreak doesn’t move you anymore.
Connect the points and see the constellations
As the night comes down on the reservoir.
We’re swimming we’re floating
And in this moment we are beholden
To what it costs to what it takes
For one perfect world can we learn to live another way?
It’s one perfect world…can we learn to live another way?
It’s one perfect world…can we learn to live another way?
It’s one perfect world
One perfect world
We get to be the ripple in the water…”
I am afraid that we have looked the other way too often in our attempts to make this a better place, a perfect world and we have left a lot of damage in our wake. I especially like the turn the song takes with “Can we learn to live another way?” I think we do that when we begin to see our world in a new way when we we see ourselves in each other perfectly loved and provided for by the Universe. We each get to be a ripple in the water, a rock that’s thrown, and a boy on the bridge, affecting change, watching our progress and that of others, making sure nothing and no one is overlooked or forgotten, and having fun together in this wonderful playground.
