As we journey through this adventure called life we meet many wonderful people and experience many wonders. In the ancient world they spoke often of The Seven Great Wonders Of The World.
I wonder what you might consider the seven great wonders of your world. I am one who has a bit of difficulty prioritizing people and things in my life. I purposely use the phrase “One of my favorites” instead of saying “my favorite” and “one of my best” instead of “best.” I think we do ourselves, others, and perhaps even things a disservice with our rating systems. After all is not discrimination really just valuing one group above another. Love doesn’t pick favorites.
Having said that perhaps even picking seven wonders out of all the wonders in your world is really just a place to start. Sir Elton John sang in The Lion King song, Circle of Life:
“From the day we arrived on the planet
And blinking stepped in to the sun…
There’s far too much to take in here,
More to do than can ever be done.”
For some years now I have begun to wonder if the people who think we may perhaps live many lives might have something there. The Western notion of: “One life ’twill soon be past and only what’s done for Christ shall last.” seems as archaic as the belief that the earth is the center of the Universe and the only planet capable of sustaining life.
I heard myself saying out loud to a dear friend just yesterday but one of my list of growing wonders: “Isn’t it a wonder to behold so many bright stars in the sky and to know that each of those stars are suns with planets revolving around them capable of life as we know it.” Wow, and even more wonderful possibilities. The wonder of it all. The wonder of you.
