Are We But Players?

Blog 392 – 09.02.2016

A quote attributed to William Shakespeare goes, “All the world is a stage and we but players.” I love that analogy and use it often. But I think we are much more than players.

Before I spend some time discussing some of our other roles in this play or production we call life I would spend a moment on the importance of play. As children most of us knew well the importance of play but as adults we often forget how much fun play adds to our lives. Play allows us to recreate ourselves hence the big adult word for play called recreation. In all your planning whether you are in the midst of a comedy, drama, epic, or tragedy be sure to take and make time for play.

As to some of our other roles on the stage of life I ask you first to consider the title , author or at least co-author. I believe that by our thoughts and words we create our world, the scenery, the lighting. We set the mood, move the story along, and not only write our own roles but assign those of others in our production. We are playwright, producer, director, and even critic. I’ d say we are much more than players. Whether the play is a flop or a raging success the blame or credit is ours alone.

We can at any time that we find ourselves unsatisfied with our role, our lines, or the way the play is proceeding step out of our role as player and do a re-write. This is your show make it what you will. This is your life make it what you will. And by all means have some fun doing it.
