Yesterday in a blog about a kiss I mentioned the passing of Anton Yelchin who is probably most famous for his portrayal of Ensign Pavel Chekov in the last three Star Trek movies. I first saw Anton fifteen years ago as a young boy named Bobby Garfield in the movie Hearts In Atlantis. If you have not seen it I encourage you to get a copy because you will want to watch it again and again.
Another of Anton’s movies that many have probably never seen because it had great difficulty being released, Odd Thomas, went straight to DVD after several years of litigation. I watched for it anxiously not only because I anticipated seeing Anton in the role of Odd Thomas but because I am a great fan of the writer Dean Koontz and especially his Odd Thomas series of books.
I’d like very much for so many see the Odd Thomas movie that it becomes a cult classic, a fitting tribute to an wonderful young actor and an inspiring writer. Some day when I am a recognized writer I would like to meet Dean Koontz. And someday when I am finished playing this role I look forward to seeing Bobby/Thomas/Chekov/Anton again and telling him face to face how much I enjoyed his performances. That, my friends is the best any actor, writer, or any of us can hope for, a simple “Well done” from those who have witnessed our performance and have been pleased and encouraged by it.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
