Since I was about thirteen I have been nearsighted. I have not always appreciated this gift but I do now. I can see well enough to read and do most everything without my glasses. But driving, watching movies, or seeing much of anything at a distance is challenging. Focusing on the near is exactly what I need and the Universe knew it and so I got eyes perfect for me.
My eyes are dark blue and have seen all fifty states and eleven foreign countries. I intend to see much more of this beautiful blue ball in time and space while I am here. Still of all the lovely things to see in the wide world the most precious to me is people up close and personal. I meet a lot of people in my travels as a contract pipeline and utility inspector. I get to hear their stories and share mine. I get to see their faces up close as they share their wonderful stories with me.
The Beatles sang a song about faces and it goes like this:
“There are faces I remember all my life
Though some have changed
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all.”
Faces communicate so much more than just words can say. Babies are nearsighted for the first several months. Babies learn quickly to read faces and mimic facial expressions. Long before their first word they are communicating a great deal.
What was the first thing your baby communicated to you with a smile or a look? Let me know. I’d love to hear your story.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
